1. Overview

Stacklore (stacklore.io, "we", "our", "us") is a software service that generates documentation from infrastructure code repositories. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

By using Stacklore, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

DataWhy we collect itHow long we keep it
Email address Account creation, login, and transactional emails (invites, billing) Until account deletion
Name Displayed in the dashboard and team views Until account deletion
OAuth tokens (GitHub, GitLab) To read your connected repositories and register webhooks Until you disconnect the account
Generated documentation The output of AI processing — what your team views in the portal Until you disconnect the repo or delete your account
Usage logs Debugging, error tracking, and service health monitoring 30 days
Billing information Subscription management via Stripe (we do not store card details) Per Stripe's retention policy
IP address Rate limiting and security 30 days in logs

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the Stacklore service
  • Process repository files and generate documentation
  • Send transactional emails (team invites, billing receipts, service notices)
  • Send product updates if you opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time
  • Monitor and improve service reliability and security
  • Respond to support requests

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Repository data

When you connect a repository, Stacklore reads file contents to generate documentation. This processing works as follows:

  • Files are read into memory one at a time
  • File contents are sent to an AI API (Anthropic Claude) to generate a documentation summary
  • The generated documentation is stored in our database
  • Raw source code is not written to disk or persisted

Important: Portions of your source code are transmitted to Anthropic for AI processing. Anthropic's privacy policy governs their handling of this data. You can use a custom AI provider in org settings to keep code processing entirely within your own infrastructure.

5. Third-party services

Stacklore uses the following third-party services that may process your data:

  • Anthropic — AI documentation generation. Privacy policy →
  • Stripe — payment processing. Privacy policy →
  • Resend — transactional email delivery. Privacy policy →
  • GitHub / GitLab — source code access via OAuth. Their respective privacy policies apply to data held on their platforms.
  • Linode (Akamai) — cloud infrastructure hosting.

6. Data retention

We retain your account data and generated documentation for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

  • Your account, org, and team data are deleted immediately
  • Generated documentation is deleted within 30 days
  • Billing records are retained per our obligations under Stripe's terms
  • Log data is purged on its normal 30-day cycle

You can request account deletion at any time by emailing hello@stacklore.io.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption in transit, bcrypt password hashing, and network-level access controls on our database. See our Security & Data Handling page for details.

No system is completely secure. We encourage you to use strong passwords and to avoid committing secrets to repositories connected to Stacklore.

8. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability — request your generated documentation in a portable format
  • Opt-out — unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the link in any email or by contacting us

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@stacklore.io.

9. Cookies

Stacklore uses localStorage (not cookies) to store your authentication token locally in your browser. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.

10. Children's privacy

Stacklore is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice in the dashboard. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
